BMW TechWorks India: New JV to Develop Software for Next-Generation Vehicles

Pune: Tata Technologies and BMW Group have formally launched their joint venture, BMW TechWorks India, with the goal of developing next-generation automotive software solutions and driving digital transformation.

The joint venture, which is equally owned by both companies, aims to tap into India’s top engineering talent and build a scalable workforce, starting with 100 employees across Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai, and targeting a workforce in the thousands by the end of 2025.

BMW TechWorks India will play a crucial role in BMW Group’s global vehicle software strategy by delivering software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and enhancing digital experiences for future mobility solutions.

Tata Technologies, with its extensive expertise across the product value chain, will provide the technical foundation for key software projects, from conceptual design to turnkey software development.

The partnership will focus on the development of software for SDVs, automated driving, digital infotainment, and other automotive digital services.

Additionally, the joint venture will contribute to BMW Group’s business IT by providing innovative solutions for global production networks and strengthening the company’s digital sales and customer experience processes. AI applications and platforms will also be a key area of focus, aimed at improving the efficiency of BMW Group’s core business functions.

The joint venture represents a significant opportunity for Indian professionals to contribute to cutting-edge automotive technologies and software solutions. The collaboration between Tata Technologies and BMW Group reinforces India’s position as a global hub for automotive innovation, offering top talent the chance to work on breakthrough technologies with global impact.

Warren Harris, CEO and MD of Tata Technologies, emphasized the joint venture's role in driving forward-thinking solutions for future mobility. Similarly, BMW Group executives highlighted the strategic importance of Indian software expertise in the development of SDVs and the company’s broader digital transformation goals.

The management team for BMW TechWorks India includes executives from both Tata Technologies and BMW Group, with Aditya Khera serving as CEO and Sweta Girinatham as CFO from Tata Technologies, and Stefan Flader and Oliver Scheickl representing BMW Group as COOs of Enterprise IT and Automotive Software, respectively.
