The iconic French duo, who wore robot helmets and were known for genres like house, pop, disco, and funk, announced their split on Monday. After 28-years of making music together and winning six Grammy Awards, the helmet-wearing musicians - Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter – revealed their split in an 8-minute video on YouTube called Epilogue.

In the video, the two are walking in a desert while wearing their trademark - helmets and leather jackets. While they started walking together, one slows down, and the other continues on their path. After a while, the one who’s gone ahead turns back and realizes that the other is left behind and walks back towards him. The one who’s left behind, though, hangs his head low as a sign of resignation and shows his control box to the other one. The other person switches the control, blowing him up. This is followed by a cutaway that reads ‘1993-2021’.

Daft Punk's longtime publicist confirmed the break-up to Vulture, a US-based magazine Monday. The musicians were known for wearing robot helmets in public and making some of the most popular songs - Around the World, One More Time, and Get Lucky – among many others. Daft Punk's last album, Random Access Memories, was released in 2013. The album won Album of the Year at the Grammys.

A few weeks earlier, there were even speculations that the duo would perform at the half-time show of Super Bowl 2021. And even though the news got all their fans pumped up, most were broken-hearted when the two did not perform at half-time. The build-up to the act, with the players wearing the helmets, indicated a performance by Daft Punk. This, however, was met with disappointment as fans did not get to hear their favourite musicians. Some of the reactions on social media:

Imagine the disappointment of the fans when they heard about the disbanding of the two. Here are some of the reactions:
