Grammys or Scammys? Questions ‘BTS Army’ on Twitter

BTS' 'Dynamite' competed against Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande's 'Rain on Me' as well as other successes.

It would be an understatement to say that the all-boy K-pop band BTS has a huge fan base. So it was obvious when the band lost in the ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ category to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s Rain on Me that the ‘BTS Army’ would declare war on Grammys on Twitter. The win, for BTS, would have marked a major achievement at the music industry’s major awards show.

To express their outrage, that RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook lost the award, the K-pop sensation BTS’ fans got hashtag “scammys” trending on Twitter on Sunday. This year was the band’s second Grammy nomination, but the first for their music. The group got nominated in the ‘Best Recording Package’ category in 2019, however, they were shut-out of the Grammys 2020.

BTS rocked the stage with their ‘Dynamite’ performance, even though they did not secure a win. With their performance this year, they’ve become the first-ever K-pop band to perform to one of their songs at the Awards. The K-pop superstars’ performance was a spectacle to watch as their performance ended on the rooftop in Seoul, South Korea.

While on BTS fan wrote “The Grammys be like ‘We're sorry for being racist. We hope this ten-second message telling you we're not racist will make you forget about how we treated The Weeknd and many others by next year.’ (sic)” other wrote, “Yeah bts was use for views by grammy #scammys”.

Here are some more angry reactions from the BTS army:

This year, the Grammys was already under fire for their nominations. Along with The Weeknd, who said that he would boycott all the future Grammys, Justin Bieber, Zayn Malik and Kanye West, among others also decided to not attend the award night.

The Grammys 2021 kicked off on Sunday. Owing to the pandemic, the 63rd edition was delayed. The show was shifted from its original date - January 31 to March 14. The host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah hosted this year's Grammys.
