In a candid and revealing interview, Bollywood actor Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, shared her personal journey of religious conversion and the cultural differences she faced in her relationship with the actor.

Sunita, who has been married to Govinda for over three decades, surprised many by disclosing that she had converted to Christianity at a young age, while also shedding light on how her upbringing and marriage have been influenced by a blend of different cultural traditions.

Sunita comes from a mixed heritage of Punjabi and Nepali backgrounds, a fact she proudly shared during the interview. She explained how these dual influences shaped her early life, and although she converted to Christianity,

she continued to honor religious practices from various faiths. "I was born in Bandra and converted to Christianity when I was young. I studied in a Christian school, and all my friends were Christians,

"Sunita said on the YouTube channel Time Out with Ankit. "I used to hear stories that wine was the blood of Christ, and I thought it was alcohol, which made me curious. I converted and embraced the faith fully."

Despite her conversion, Sunita’s spiritual journey remained inclusive. She revealed that she regularly visits dargahs, gurudwaras, and temples, participating in religious rituals from different faiths.

“I observe different fasts throughout the week and avoid eating meat on those days,” she shared. Sunita also clarified that her parents never knew about her conversion, and they remained unaware of her spiritual shift.

The interview also touched upon her relationship with Govinda and the cultural differences they navigated in their marriage. Sunita humorously recalled the early days of their relationship, highlighting their vastly different upbringings.

"I went from wearing mini skirts to wearing sarees after I met him, and my husband didn’t like that transition at all. I would tell him, 'I’m a girl from Bandra, and you are from Virar, boss.' And he would reply, 'No, my mother won’t approve of this.'"

Sunita and Govinda dated for three years before tying the knot, and their relationship has withstood the test of time. Today, they are proud parents of two children, Tina and Yashvardhan.

Their family dynamic is a blend of both Sunita’s modern upbringing and Govinda’s more traditional values, showcasing how they have managed to balance their differences over the years.

As Sunita continues to embrace her multi-religious and multi-cultural identity, her openness about her spiritual and personal life offers a glimpse into the complexities of her life, as well as the ways in which she and Govinda have grown together as a couple.
