Pune: The powerful legacy of the Maratha Empire, managed successfully by the Peshwas in the 17th and 18th centuries, is set to grace the silver screen in the form of Phulwanti, a historical drama that will be released on October 11.

The film is an adaptation of the novel by renowned historian Babasaheb Purandare, known for his extensive work on Maratha history.

At the heart of this film is the character of Venkatadwhari Narasimha Shastri, an accomplished scholar who played a crucial role in the Peshwa court.

Actor Gashmeer Mahajani steps into the shoes of this commanding figure, portraying Shastri’s intelligence, wisdom, and influence. Alongside him, actress Prajakta Mali stars in the titular role of Phulwanti, a famed dancer of the Peshwa era, whose story intertwines with that of Shastri.

The film is a visual and narrative exploration of the Peshwa period, showcasing the grandeur and complexities of the time.

On September 5, a motion poster of Gashmeer Mahajani’s look from the film was released, revealing his character in traditional Peshwa attire—complete with the iconic turban, angarkha, rudraksha beads around his neck, and classic Peshwa-style earrings.

Mahajani expressed his excitement over portraying such a profound and unique historical figure, stating that it is a rare opportunity to bring to life a character of such stature. Prajakta Mali, too, shared her enthusiasm about the project and her role as Phulwanti.

Phulwanti is produced by Mangesh Pawar & Company and Shivoham Creations Private Limited, and is presented by Panorama Studios. The screenplay and dialogues have been penned by Pravin Vitthal Tarde, while Snehal Pravin Tarde directs the project.

The film’s production team includes Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, Mangesh Pawar, Shweta Mali, and Prajakta Mali. Set to release on October 11, Phulwanti promises to be a grand cinematic retelling of a fascinating chapter in Maratha history.
