COVID-19 impact: Frequency of washing clothes goes up; 82 per cent worried about carrying germs in clothes

With people realising the growing significance of sanitisation amid the spread of COVID-19, the frequency with which they wash clothes has increased. According to a survey carried by data, insights and consulting firm Kantar, the last year witnessed a spike of washing clothes.

According to the survey that was carried out in the second half of 2020 for Whirlpool of India, 97 per cent of people felt that the significance of sanitisation. 82 per cent of people also claimed that they were worried about carrying germs in clothes during the pandemic.

While, 87 per cent of the respondents said that the frequency with which they wash clothes has gone up, said the survey that had a sample size of 500 individuals aged 28-40 years. The survey was carried in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Delhi.

It said, "People from Mumbai are most worried about carrying germs in clothes when coming from outside at 89 per cent, followed by Chennai and Kolkata.”

In order to maintain hygiene and cleanliness, 91 per cent claimed that the washing of clothes has surge. “People today are more vigilant of their health and hygiene than ever before,” PTI quoted Whirlpool of India Vice-President (Marketing) KG Singh as saying.

An official spokesperson from Kantar also said that the survey evidently shows the stress and worry around cleansing of clothes. People are researching on internet to know of effective ways to clean their clothes and kill germs.
