Accused Sets Dog on Woman Over Debt Collection

Pune: In a shocking incident in Yerawada, a woman seeking overdue payments for a self-help group was attacked by a pet dog, resulting in serious injuries.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at Sassoon Hospital. Yerawada police have filed charges against two individuals, including a woman.

The 40-year-old complainant reported the incident to the Yerawada police. According to her account, the accused, Jyoti Raghunath Shirke (42) and her nephew Mihir Shirke (25), both residents of Gandhinagar, Yerawada, have been charged.

The complainant visited Jyoti Shirke's residence around 8:45 AM on Sunday (June 30), to request overdue payments for the self-help group. In response, Shirke and her nephew Mihir verbally abused and threatened her. The accused then released their pet dog on the woman.

The dog bit her right arm three to four times, causing severe bleeding. Despite the woman's pleas for help, the accused locked their door from the inside, offering no assistance.

The woman sustained serious injuries from the attack and is currently under treatment at Sassoon Hospital. Yerawada police are investigating the incident.

Recently, in another shocking incident, a group of individuals had assaulted a women who intervened in a dispute over a cricket game near the grounds opposite the mental hospital in Yerawada. Six individuals were arrested by Yerawada Police and charged with assault and molestation in this regard.
