Pune: In a significant development, the CEO, General Manager, and three other staff members of Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital in Thergaon have been charged for non-cooperation with a government inspection team. The charges were filed after the hospital staff allegedly obstructed an official inspection.
Radheshyam Hanmantrao Padalwar lodged a complaint at Wakad Police Station. According to the complaint, CEO Pamesh Gupta, General Manager Sandip Kumar Singh, medical social worker Sanchit Suryavanshi, a female medical social worker, and another unidentified woman have been charged.
The inspection team was at the hospital to ensure compliance with the Maharashtra Public Trust Act and a High Court ruling that mandates transparent implementation of schemes providing free and discounted medical treatments to the poor and underprivileged. The team, led by the complainant, was checking if the hospital adhered to these requirements.
During the visit, CEO Gupta, General Manager Singh, and the medical social worker reportedly obstructed the officials. Despite being required to assist the inspection team and provide necessary documents, the accused left the hospital without complying with these obligations.
Additionally, one unidentified woman from the hospital staff allegedly threatened the inspection team, questioning their authority to conduct checks at night and why female staff were made to stay until 10 PM.
Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Pawar confirmed the case, stating, "A case has been registered and further investigation is ongoing. Notices under CRPC 41 have been sent to the accused, and inquiries are being conducted."
Responding to the allegations, Pamesh Gupta, the CEO of Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, said, "The hospital was visited by the Deputy Secretary from the Mumbai Secretariat, who is also the chairman of the Special Charity Fund Scheme Inspection Committee.
The hospital administration has submitted all relevant documents regarding the charitable work being conducted. There was no obstruction of any government work. The hospital administration has always cooperated transparently with the committee."
