Pune: The Diwali Padwa celebrations of the Pawar family in Baramati are drawing statewide attention this year, as the family members hold separate gatherings due to the ongoing political division.
Senior leader Sharad Pawar, MP Supriya Sule, and Yugendra Pawar will welcome supporters at the family’s Govindbaug residence, while Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will greet party workers and citizens at his residence in Katewadi on Saturday, November 2.
Ajit Pawar, who is currently on an election campaign tour across Baramati Taluka, announced his decision during a public meeting in Zhargadwadi, stating that he would meet with supporters at his Katewadi residence due to space constraints at Govindbaug.
Ajit explained that the decision was influenced by requests from other leaders and that Katewadi would provide more space for the gathering.
Traditionally, the Pawar family has celebrated Diwali Padwa together at Govindbaug, where they meet with party supporters and citizens from across Maharashtra.
However, since Ajit Pawar’s decision to join the BJP-led government last year and Sunetra Pawar’s candidacy against Supriya Sule in the Lok Sabha elections, tensions within the family have become more pronounced.
With Ajit’s announcement of a separate gathering in Katewadi, large gatherings are expected at both locations.
Ajit clarified that he chose Katewadi as a suitable venue following calls from other dignitaries, including Sunil Tatkare, while Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule, Yugendra Pawar, and other leaders will be meeting citizens at Govindbaug from the morning onward.
