Kothrud: Amol Shingare, who was diagnosed with polio at the age of four due to a mistake in treatment by doctors, suffered a disability.

Due to the difficult situation at home, Amol studied by doing various jobs even in such a situation. By treating sorrow as a friend, he created happy moments in life by making the problem itself a tool. Not only this, but he also created happiness in the lives of other differently-abled people.

Amol, a resident of Sant Dnyaneshwar Nagar Erandavana, did not allow disability and poverty to affect his education. He studied by doing whatever he could, from wiping cars to collecting garbage from every household in the society.

Seeing his ongoing struggle for progress, people also supported him. Amol made progress while accepting the positivity of life. Currently, Amol is working with many differently-abled people to support each other.

Amol Shingare said that after completing his education, he started trying for a job. There were a lot of problems. That's when an accident happened. He suffered a major facial injury.

Fractures occurred at 16 locations. After the surgery, we received a message that there was a job fair for persons with disabilities. I dared to go to this gathering and changed my life. Amol got a job in a Mahindra company. Life came to stability when he joined Mahindra in 2009. He is happily married to his parents, wife and two children.

In 2014, I entered the social sector to help people with disabilities so that the time that came upon me did not fall on others. Many philanthropists from the community, all the friends at Mahindra, colleagues in college etc. helped in this work from time to time.

Vijay Kulkarni of Velocity Care helped us differently-abled. Inspired by this, we started the Enabler Charitable Trust. It is working for the differently-abled.

The Trust's activities...

  • Organizing various skill development workshops and seminars for persons with disabilities

  • Distribution of assistive devices like wheelchairs, artificial limbs, hearing aids etc. to persons with disabilities

  • Educational and professional guidance for students with disabilities.

  • Starting gym and technical courses

  • Providing shelter and employment opportunities for differently-abled graduates
