Pune: Assistant Police Inspector Chetan Chandrakant Thorbole has been charged and arrested for demanding a bribe of ₹5 lakh rupees to provide a nil report on a complaint about obtaining a job with fake documents. The complaint was filed by a 32-year-old man at Lonikand Police Station.
According to the information received, a complaint was filed at Lonikand Police Station regarding obtaining a job with fake documents. The investigation of this complaint was assigned to Assistant Police Inspector Chetan Thorbole of Wagholi Police Station.
To provide a nil report on the complaint and to ensure that the complainant would not face any trouble in the future, Thorbole demanded a bribe of 5 lakh rupees.
Already having lost his job due to the complaint, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) regarding the additional demand for a 5 lakh rupee bribe.
The ACB verified the complaint on 1, 4, 11, and 24 July. During this verification, Thorbole, after negotiations, reduced the bribe demand to 1 lakh rupees.
The complainant’s proactive approach in reporting the bribe demand to the ACB brought the matter to light and initiated legal proceedings against the officer involved. However, a trap operation could not be carried out afterward.
But since the bribe demand was confirmed, a case was finally registered at Lonikand Police Station on Wednesday (July 31). Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhuri Bhosale is investigating the matter.
Anti-Corruption Bureau has appealed citizens to come forward and report demand cases without any fear.
