Electric Scooter Catches Fire Near Fatimanagar, Safety Fears Grow

Salil Urunkar

Pune: An electric scooter was completely destroyed in a fire near Kalubai Temple Chowk, close to Fatimanagar on Pune-Solapur road, at around 9 AM.

This incident follows closely on the heels of another fire last night in which a PMPML AC bus was gutted, also an electric vehicle. These consecutive incidents have led to rising fears among residents regarding the safety of electric vehicles.

The owner of the electric scooter, Javed Budhani, was on his way to work, traveling from Hadapsar toward Pune, when a fellow motorist alerted him to smoke coming from his vehicle.

Javed quickly pulled over and got off his scooter. In a matter of moments, the scooter caught fire, and within 10 minutes, it was reduced to ashes. Luckily, no one was harmed in the incident.

Javed, who had purchased the electric scooter just a year ago, expressed shock and dismay as his nearly new vehicle was consumed by flames.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and this incident has sparked fresh concerns about the safety of electric vehicles. Local authorities and police are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

With back-to-back cases of electric vehicles catching fire, citizens are becoming increasingly anxious about the potential risks involved in using such vehicles. The investigation is expected to shed light on whether these incidents point to larger issues with electric vehicle safety.
