Pune: Former Indian Administrative Services officer Avinash Dharmadhikari has welcomed the decision by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to cancel candidacy of Puja Manorama Dilip Khedkar and barring her from taking any future government exams. This move reinforces UPSC’s credibility, Avinash Dharmadhikari has said.

Dharmadhikari remarked that the decision reflects UPSC’s commitment to meeting high expectations. He cautioned UPSC aspiring candidates against generalizing this incident, emphasizing that the majority of successful candidates through UPSC and MPSC achieve their positions through hard work and dedication. He urged students to maintain their faith in their efforts and focus on character development alongside their studies.

Commenting on the action against Khedkar, Dharmadhikari stated "UPSC’s thorough examination of her documents revealed misuse of provisions, leading to the cancellation of her temporary selection and a ban on future exams.

This case serves as a lesson, highlighting the need for vigilance to prevent similar abuses. UPSC’s investigation into 15,000 cases from 2009 to 2023 underscores the importance of maintaining integrity in social categorization and certification processes."

Dharmadhikari expressed cautious approval of UPSC’s decision, urging them to continue proactive measures to prevent future incidents. He advised students not to be discouraged by this episode, reminding them that handling daily administrative challenges requires maintaining composure and readiness to assist the public.

Puja Khedkar, a 2023 batch IAS officer, was appointed as a probationary Assistant District Magistrate, and had allegedly made various demands from senior officers since her appointment.

She reportedly occupied a senior officer's antechamber and used a private vehicle with a red beacon, actions that prompted Pune District Collector Suhas Divase to file a formal complaint.

Khedkar's tenure in Pune began on June 3. However, even before officially taking charge, she sent multiple WhatsApp messages to the District Magistrate and the Resident Deputy Collector, demanding a separate meeting space, vehicle, accommodation, and an attendant.
