Baner Hill: Police Arrest Gang Robbing and Assaulting Nagaland Women

Baner police arrested Vishal Prabhakar Samukhrao (19), a resident of Boradewadi, Jadhavwadi in Chikhali, along with his two minor accomplices.

Pune: Baner police have arrested a gang responsible for assaulting and robbing three women who were hiking on Baner Hill.

The incident took place on October 13 when the women, residents of Nagaland, were returning from a walk. Four individuals confronted them, physically assaulted them, and stole valuables, including mobile phones, purses, and backpacks worth ₹51,000.

Following an extensive investigation, Baner police, acting on a tip-off, arrested Drapet alias Vishal Prabhakar Samukhrao (19), a resident of Boradewadi, Jadhavwadi in Chikhali.

His two minor accomplices were also taken into custody. The police recovered the stolen items, along with a motorcycle and a sickle used during the crime. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at ₹1,10,000.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner Himmat Patil, and Assistant Commissioner Anuja Deshmane.

Senior officers from Baner Police Station, led by Senior Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi, and Chatuhshrungi Police Station’s Senior Inspector Vijayanand Patil, along with other police personnel, played a key role in the arrests.

This case marks the first major success for the newly established Baner Police Station. The police station was recently inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who oversaw the opening of seven new police stations in the city.

Earlier in September, a 19-year-old college student Pijendai Kamei, was brutally attacked and robbed while taking an evening walk with his friend in the Baner Hill area of Pune. The victim, originally from Nagaland and currently residing in Old Sangvi, filed a complaint at the Chatuhshrungi Police Station.
