Pune: The Bhagwan Mahavir-Buddha Chowk was inaugurated at the hands of D. R. Mehta, former Chairman of Sarhad Institute, Katraj. Kashmiri student Ruqayya Maqbool and Afghan student Farzana Amiri started the program by performing Navkar Mantra.
On this occasion, President of JITO Vijay Bhandari, Chairman Pune Chapter Indrakumar Chhajed, Kantilal Oswal, writer and researcher Sanjay Sonwani, Dr. Amol Devlekar, senior journalist Shriram Pawar were present.
"Dr. Mahavir, who has been working on behalf of The Disabled Service Committee, has gone to the places all over the world, especially where common people are suffering due to violence. It is fitting that Mehta inaugurates this square," said Sanjay Nahar, founder and president of Sarhad, adding that the ideas of Mahavir and Buddha are needed today.
Praising Sarhad's work, Mehta said there was a need to work for the society in an absolute spirit through actions rather than just words. Leshpal Closege expressed her gratitude. Dr. Shailesh Pagariya, Anuj Nahar and Zahid Bhat organised the event.
