Bhama Askhed Water Pipeline Project 35% Complete, Faces Delays

Neelam Karale

Pune: The Bhama Askhed water pipeline project, critical for water supply to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, is lagging with only 35% completion after four years of work. This delay raises concerns about meeting the 2025 deadline, leaving residents waiting longer for enhanced water access.

Benefits of the Project:

The project aims to supply water to Pimpri-Chinchwad from the Bhama Askhed dam in Khed taluka. The Water Resources Department has approved a daily water quota of 167 million liters (MLD) for the city.

The pipeline will run from the dam to Chikhali, covering areas like Talawade, Moshi, Dudulgaon, Charholi, Vadmukhwadi, Chovisawadi, Dighi, Bopkhel, and parts of Bhosari and Moshi Pradhikaran.

Contractor Notified:

The contractor has been repeatedly instructed to expedite the work and complete it on time. However, the delay persists, and the residents’ frustration is growing.

Observing the slow progress, the municipal administration issued a notice to the contractor on July 22. If the work is not completed on time, the contractor may be blacklisted.

"The Bhama Askhed project has a deadline until 2025. Currently, only 35% of the pipeline work is complete. Due to the slow pace, we have issued a notice to the contractor to accelerate the work," stated Shrikant Savane, Chief Engineer (1), Water Supply Department.

Pipeline Specifications:

  • Total Water Quota (Daily): 167 MLD

  • Total Cost: ₹162 crore

  • Dam to Navalakh Umbre: 1700 mm diameter

  • Navalakh Umbre to Dehu: 1400 mm diameter

  • Dehu to Chikhali: 5 kilometers
