Bhimashankar Road Blocked by Landslide in Shirgaon

Pune: Continuous heavy rainfall in the western part of Khed taluka has caused a significant landslide on the Shirur-Bhimashankar road at Shirgaon, halting all traffic towards Bhorgiri-Bhimashankar.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated immediate efforts to clear the debris and restore the route. The region has been experiencing relentless rainfall for the past four days, with an intensified downpour since Wednesday.

Eyewitness Swapnil Shirke from Shirgaon reported that the landslide occurred between Wednesday (July 24) night and early Thursday (July 25) morning, bringing large amounts of mud, rocks, and trees onto the road, rendering it completely impassable and slippery.

PWD Branch Engineer Ram Jadhav confirmed that debris removal began promptly with the help of two JCB machines, and efforts are underway to reopen the road to traffic as soon as possible. No injuries or damage to property have been reported so far.

Landslide incidents have been reported from Tamhini Ghat, Mulshi also. Over the past 24 hours, the Mulshi Dam area has experienced record-breaking rainfall, with Tamhini receiving 556 mm of rain. This extreme weather has caused trees to fall and roads to close in various locations.

The landslide at Adarwadi at 2:30 AM saw a large section of the mountain collapse, causing rocks, mud, and debris to bury the road and the nearby 'Picnic Hotel.'

Two people were trapped in under the hotel debris. Unfortunately, one of them, identified as Shivaji Motiram Bahirat, aged 30, died, and another person was injured.
