Pune: Despite the Maha Vikas Aghadi yet to formally announce candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, MP Supriya Sule has confirmed the candidacy of MLA Sangram Thopte for the Bhor Assembly Constituency.

Sule made this announcement during a gathering in Rajgad taluka, expressing confidence in Thopte’s leadership with the slogan "Ekach Vada, Sangram Dada."

The event took place on September 9, 2024, following various foundation stone-laying ceremonies in Rajgad. This marked Sule's first visit to the area since her re-election as a Member of Parliament.

Addressing the gathering, she thanked the local population, Congress party workers, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) for their continuous support.

While explaining the election strategy, Sule stated that Mahavikas Aghadi has a set formula: the party that previously held the seat will field a candidate from the same party.

In the case of Bhor, the Congress will select its candidate, and Sule indicated that Sangram Thopte has already been decided as the preferred candidate.

In her address, Sule also praised the collaborative efforts between Congress workers and the NCP during the Lok Sabha elections and emphasized that NCP, led by Sharad Pawar, would work hard to secure a larger lead in the upcoming Assembly elections.

She also highlighted the geographical challenges of the Bhor constituency, emphasizing the need for coordination with alliance partners to ensure smooth operations.

Thopte’s role in organizing a massive rally for the Mahavikas Aghadi in Harishchandra, Bhor taluka, was acknowledged as a significant milestone in the coalition’s efforts, drawing strong public support.

This endorsement by Sule reaffirms the NCP’s commitment to Thopte’s leadership in the region. In the last election, Supriya Sule had secured a lead of 44,000 votes from the Bhor constituency.

The event was attended by several prominent political figures, including Congress taluka president Nana Raut, NCP taluka president Santosh Renuse, and Shiv Sena taluka president Mauli Shinde, among others.
