Bhor: Congress Workers Protest Over Offensive Remarks Against Thopte Family

Pune: A political controversy erupted in Bhor on Sunday (October 7) evening during a BJP event for the distribution of Diwali kits, after one of the attendees made offensive remarks against Congress leaders, including MLA Sangram Thopte and his father, former state minister Anantrao Thopte.

The incident has led to widespread anger among Congress supporters, culminating in a late-night protest outside the police station.

The event, hosted by BJP corporator Kiran Dagade Patil, took an unexpected turn when a worker at the gathering allegedly used derogatory language while referring to the Thopte family. The remarks quickly spread through social media, with audio and video clips of the incident circulating widely.

Upon realizing the gravity of the situation, Kiran Dagade Patil immediately asked the worker responsible for the remarks to apologize, and he too expressed his own regret during his speech, distancing himself from the offensive comments.

Despite the apology, the incident sparked outrage among Congress workers, who gathered in large numbers outside the Bhor police station later that night.

Among them was Prithviraj Thopte, son of MLA Sangram Thopte, who demanded legal action against those involved in the incident. The protest intensified as Congress workers refused to leave the premises until formal charges were filed.

Police Inspector Annasaheb Pawar assured the protestors that the case would be handled in accordance with legal advice from government experts, but this response did little to calm the situation.

Frustrated by the delay in action, Congress workers staged a sit-in protest in front of the police station, vowing not to disperse until their demands were met.
