Bhosari Floods: Homes, Shops Inundated; Small Businesses Suffer Loss

Shivraj Sanas

Pune: Heavy rains since Wednesday (July 24) night caused severe flooding in Bhosari, Dighi, and Bopkhel, disrupting lives and damaging property.

In Bhosari's Chakrapani Colony, around 150 homes were inundated, leading to significant damage to household items. River Dale School and Shriram Vidyalaya were also affected. Residents attribute the flooding to homes built over the drainage system.

In Shantinagar, Gulwevasti, Anandnagar, and Londhe Talim, around 200 shops were flooded, causing losses for small businesses.

Former corporator Santosh Londhe and local entrepreneurs cited improper construction by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation as the cause of the flooding.

In Balajinagar, Bhosari, around 200 homes were flooded, with residents facing severe inconvenience. Social worker Mahendra Sarvade noted that the Municipal Corporation's failure to widen the drainage system exacerbated the situation.

In Dighi, areas such as Katevasti, Vijaynagar, Vinayak Park, and Dighi Village Municipal Corporation's Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj School area were flooded, affecting around 20 homes.

Officials visited the site and noted that a wall built by the military obstructed the natural flow of water, leading to the flooding. The wall was later broken to allow water drainage.

In Bopkhel, around 1,500 families live near the riverbank in the Ramnagari slum. Fifteen homes were flooded, and about 100 residents were relocated to a municipal school, where ISKCON provided meals.

Across Bhosari, Dighi, and Bopkhel, rainwater mixed with sewage entered homes, causing severe inconvenience and a foul odor. Residents had to stay awake all night due to the water intrusion.
