Bhosari Police Register Two FIRs for One Accident

Shivraj Sanas

Pune: In a glaring example of procedural oversight, the Bhosari police station has registered two separate cases for the same road accident, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of police procedures.

The accident, which occurred on August 25 in Kasarwadi, involved a speeding motorcycle that fatally struck a woman crossing the road.

The deceased, identified as Munni Begum Vakil Ahmed, aged 44, was crossing the road in front of a Yamaha showroom when she was hit by a speeding Bullet motorcycle, resulting in severe injuries to her leg and head.

Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries on the spot. The motorcycle involved, bearing registration number MH 12 VK 9589, was driven by Vidyadhar Chandrakant Bartakke, a 28-year-old resident of Sangamwadi, Pune.

Following the accident, a complaint was filed by Vakil Ahmed Hazrat Ali, aged 49, the husband of the deceased, at the Bhosari police station on September 10, resulting in case number 539/2024.

However, it has since come to light that an earlier complaint regarding the same accident had already been lodged on August 25, with case number 508/2024. This initial complaint was filed by Siraj Mainuddin Sheikh, a 21-year-old resident of Kasarwadi, who identified the deceased as his aunt.

The duplicate case filings have raised eyebrows and highlighted a significant lapse in communication and procedure within the police department.

Senior Police Inspector Vishwanath Chavan of Bhosari police station acknowledged the error, stating that the investigating officer and the complainant were unaware of the prior registration of the case.

"We will notify the court about the duplicate filing to rectify this error," he said, emphasizing the need to address such administrative lapses promptly.
