Pune: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will now take over the investigation into allegations against IPS officer Bhagyashree Navtakke, the former Deputy Commissioner of Police in Pune, in connection with the financial irregularities at the Bhaichand Hirachand Raisoni (BHR) cooperative bank in Jalgaon.

This decision follows complaints filed by suspects Sunil Zhanwar and Kunal Shah, which were submitted to the Director General of Police (DGP). Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has approved the transfer of the case to the CBI.

Navtakke is accused of bypassing established procedures and filing cases hastily or with ulterior motives. A complaint in this regard has been filed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingale at the Bundgarden police station.

Based on this complaint, a criminal case has been registered against Bhagyashree Navtakke. The investigation will now be transferred to the CBI, following the approval of the Chief Minister. The criminal case currently registered at Bundgarden police station will soon be handed over to the CBI for further investigation.

Criminal cases were filed in three police stations in Pune district in November 2020. Following this, Sunil Zhanwar and Kunal Shah submitted a complaint to the Director General of Police.

Senior officers at the DG's office conducted an inquiry, and on February 19, 2024, a report was sent to the Home Department regarding the investigation.

While being a probationary IPS, Bhagyashree Navatakke was abruptly transferred to the State Intelligence Department (SID) in Aurangabad after a video clip of her making a controversial statement about the Dalit community had gone viral.
