Bhukum Couple Killed in Dump Truck Motorcycle Collision, Driver Flees

Pune: In a heart-wrenching accident on the Dighi-Bandar highway in Bhukum, a husband and wife met a tragic end when their motorcycle was run over by a speeding dump truck.

The incident took place around 1 AM on Thursday, September 12, in front of Hotel Garwa. The victims, Anil Kalu Suryavanshi and Priya Anil Suryavanshi, residents of Lavale Fata Pirangut in the Mulshi taluka, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Reports indicate that Priya had visited Pune with a friend on Wednesday, September 11, to view Ganpati celebrations. Later that night, she and her friend arrived at Bhugaon, where her husband Anil had traveled from Lavale phata to pick her up.

As they were returning on Anil's motorcycle (MH 12 TX 0395), a dump truck (MH 14 LG 7911) traveling from Bhukum to Bhugav crashed into them with significant force. The collision resulted in severe injuries, with blood flowing from their heads onto the road, leading to their instantaneous death.

Following the accident, the dump truck driver fled the scene. The victims' bodies were transported to the Paud Rural Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The couple, who had been married for just eight months, were both employed—Anil at a company on Urwade Road and Priya at a local shop in Bhugaon.

The Paud police are investigating the case, with Police Inspector Santosh Girigosavi overseeing the inquiry and Assistant Police Inspector Sandeep Chavan handling the investigation.

The stretch of road where the accident occurred has been notorious for accidents, with many lives lost due to incomplete roadwork and lack of adequate safety measures.

Despite repeated protests by the local Mulshi Struggle Committee, the government has not addressed the issues, leading to continued safety concerns from local activists.
