Pune Police's Crime Branch has made a significant breakthrough in the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case, arresting the second accused from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

The incident, which involved the sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman, took place in Bopdev Ghat a few days ago, and the police have been intensively investigating the case since then.

According to the police, the second suspect, a 25-year-old, was taken into custody. This marks the arrest of two out of the three individuals accused of committing the heinous crime. However, the third suspect remains on the run, and Pune Police have launched an extensive manhunt to locate him.

The first accused, identified as Chandrakumar Raviprasad Kanojia (age 20, from Dindori, Madhya Pradesh), was apprehended earlier on October 11. Kanojia, along with the other two accused, has a history of criminal activity, including charges of robbery.

The assault occurred on the night of October 3. Before committing the crime, the three accused consumed alcohol at Bopdev Ghat. Around 10 PM, they spotted a young man and woman sitting in the area and launched a brutal attack.

Using bamboo sticks, they beat the couple and further threatened them with a machete. The three men then sexually assaulted the woman. After committing the crime, the perpetrators fled the scene on a motorcycle.

To avoid capture, the accused avoided main roads and took internal routes to reach the Shindewadi area on Satara Road. Instead of covering a direct 20-kilometer route, they traveled nearly 80 kilometers in an attempt to evade detection.

However, surveillance footage from a petrol pump in Saswad clearly captured their faces. Additionally, they were spotted consuming alcohol at a nearby liquor store, further aiding the police investigation.
