Pune: A shocking case of sexual assault surfaced late Thursday (October 3) night in the Bopdev Ghat area of Pune, where a young woman was allegedly raped by three men while she was out with a friend.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when the victim and her male friend were walking in the secluded area of Bopdev Ghat.
According to police reports, the two college students had gone for a late-night walk when three men approached them on a motorcycle.
The attackers threatened the pair, assaulted the girl's friend by beating him, stripping off his clothes, and tying him to a nearby tree. They then forced the young woman into submission and took turns raping her before fleeing the scene.
The traumatized girl was immediately rushed to the hospital by her friend. Sassoon Hospital, where the girl was admitted for treatment, informed the Kondhwa police of the situation around midnight.
Senior police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma, visited the crime scene and initiated an immediate investigation.
In response, the Kondhwa police station registered an official case on Friday (October 4) morning. Ten teams from the Pune Crime Branch have been deployed to locate the suspects, who are currently absconding.
The incident has drawn sharp attention to the safety of the Bopdev Ghat area, which has been notorious for criminal activity in the past. Just three days prior to this rape case, another young woman was molested after being abducted from the same area.
In that case, the accused, identified as 36-year-old Rajekhan Karim Pathan, posed as a human rights activist and took photographs of the woman and her companion before forcing her into his vehicle and driving to an isolated location where the molestation occurred. He was later arrested by the police.
