Pune: A construction businessman from Shivajinagar has been accused of deceitfully acquiring a two-room property and preparing fabricated documents to seize the inherited share of a disabled woman.

The businessman, identified as Manoj Bahirat, and his wife Sonal, now face legal action following a complaint lodged by the woman’s distant uncle.

Vivek Rajaram Kshirsagar, a 60-year-old resident of Nigdi, filed the complaint at the Shivajinagar police station, detailing how his niece, Ashwini Sushil Khaladkar, has been targeted.

Ashwini, who suffers from a congenital multi-disability disorder, lost her parents and has been living in a ground-floor apartment in Shivajinagar.

According to the complaint, Manoj Bahirat, with his wife’s assistance, allegedly created false documents dated September 5, 2014, falsely indicating that Ashwini and her elder sister Meghna Katrekar sold their inherited shares. The document also claimed that other family members had no rights to the property.

Further investigations revealed that Bahirat had removed Ashwini's late father’s name from the municipal tax records and replaced it with his and his wife’s names.

Additionally, despite CCTV cameras being installed for Ashwini’s safety, the system was tampered with, leading to the destruction of the cameras and the theft of the DVR. Ashwini was reportedly assaulted during this time, leading to a police case being filed in 2022.

The complaint also alleges that Manoj Bahirat has been intimidating Ashwini and her sister Meghna to assert control over the property. The water supply to Ashwini’s residence was also cut off in June 2024.

Police are now investigating the case, suspecting that the fabricated documents were part of a larger conspiracy to seize Ashwini’s property after her death. Police Sub-Inspector Savita Sapkale is leading the investigation.
