Bull Electrocuted to Death in Baner: Residents Demand Immediate Action

Pune: A tragic incident occurred in Veerbhadra Nagar, Baner, on Tuesday (August 6) evening when a young bull was electrocuted by a streetlight pole installed by Pune Smart City Development Corporation.

The incident, which took place around 7 PM, has sparked outrage among residents, who have taken to social media to express their anger towards the administration.

The bull, owned by Santosh Saste, a local resident, was returning from grazing when it touched an earthing strip near a streetlight pole on Lane No. 9 and died instantly.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred; two months ago, a woman died from an electric shock from a streetlight in Balewadi, and two years ago, a similar incident claimed the life of a cow.

Baner residents immediately informed MSEDCL, and the electricity supply to the streetlights was cut off. News of the incident spread quickly on social media, with many residents voicing their frustration and calling for urgent action.

Sarang Wable, a local resident, questioned the administration’s negligence, asking, "Does the administration only wake up after someone dies or such an incident occurs?"

Monali Pawar, another resident, emphasized the need for a thorough inspection of all streetlights in the area to prevent future tragedies. "The bull’s death has highlighted a serious safety issue that could have endangered many lives," she said.

Residents are demanding immediate action to inspect and rectify the streetlights to ensure the safety of both humans and animals in the area.
