Burglaries, Robberies Continue in Pune

Incidents of snatching of gold chains and mobile phones were reported from Dhankawadi, Kharadi and Hadapsar areas.

Pune: Burglaries and street robberies continue in the city. Thieves broke the locks of three flats and stole property worth Rs 5 lakh in Ganesh Peth and Loni Kalbhor areas.

Incidents of snatching of gold chains and mobile phones were reported from Dhankawadi, Kharadi and Hadapsar areas. Citizens have been demanding that the police step up patrolling to prevent such incidents.

Thieves broke the lock of a locked flat in Ganesh Society in Shri Guru Nanak High School area in Ganesh Peth area and stole jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh from the cupboard.

A case has been registered at Faraskhana police station. They also broke the lock of a flat in Rajnandini Park Society in Loni Kalbhor and stole cash and jewellery worth Rs 38,000 from the cupboard. Thieves broke open the door of the flat of another woman in the same society and stole gold ornaments worth Rs 1.69 lakh. A case has been registered at Loni Kalbhor police station.

Street robberies
Thieves snatched the mangalsutra of a pedestrian in Balajinagar area on Satara road. A case has been registered at Sahakarnagar police station.

The complainant, a 48-year-old woman, and her daughter-in-law had left Kashinath Patilnagar area around 4 pm on Monday. At that time, the thief on a bike snatched the mangalsutra worth Rs 25,000 from the woman.

The woman from Katraj area was travelling in a bus between Morebaug and Gandharva Lawns. Taking advantage of the crowd, the thief stole gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 98,000 from the woman's purse. A case has been registered at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station after a 29-year-old woman lodged a complaint.

The driver of Vadgaon Sheri was sleeping on the footpath with the tempo on the side of the road in Kharadi area as the tempo failed. The bike-borne thieves threatened the tempo driver and forcibly snatched valuables worth around Rs 11,000, including mobile phones and cash. The incident took place around 12 am on Monday.

Chandannagar police have registered a case in this regard. In another incident, a woman from Sahakarnagar had left Ramtekdi area in Hadapsar on Monday evening. At that time, the thief snatched the gold necklace from her neck.

The woman has lodged a complaint with the Wanawadi police station. Police have arrested Vitthal Manohar Khonde (31), a resident of Wanwadi, in connection with the case.
