Pune: In a significant step towards sustainable energy, the Pune division of Central Railways has inaugurated a rooftop solar power project at the Diesel Loco Shed in Ghorpadi. This initiative, launched by General Manager Ram Karan Yadav, aims to reduce electricity costs and promote environmental sustainability.

The newly installed solar power system comprises 1,188 solar panels spread across 6,500 square meters of the shed's roof. It is projected to generate approximately 944,000 kilowatts of electricity per year, close to the shed's annual consumption of 946,000 kilowatts.

This initiative will result in annual savings of Rs 52 lakh in electricity bills for the railways. Moreover, the project will cut down carbon dioxide emissions by 18,122 tons each year, an impact comparable to planting 39,805 trees.

Inspection of Pune-Lonavala Route

General Manager Ram Karan Yadav also conducted an inspection of the Pune-Lonavala railway route. Accompanied by Divisional Railway Manager Indu Dubey and other officials, Yadav evaluated several technical aspects, including the tracks, electrical overhead equipment, bridge conditions, and signaling systems.

He also reviewed the facilities at the running room in Pune. Yadav emphasized the importance of enhancing passenger safety and improving the amenities provided to travelers.
