Pune: The state has been hit by relentless heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, severely affecting road conditions, particularly on the Shikrapur road.

The road is riddled with potholes, creating a dangerous driving environment. This state highway has become a hotspot for accidents, with four to five minor accidents reported daily due to the potholes.

Many travelers and two-wheeler riders have suffered significant injuries because of these potholes, which have been neglected for several days. Despite the ongoing issues, there has been no visible action from the administrative authorities to repair the road. The potholes are not only causing accidents but also leading to severe traffic congestion.

In the Shelgav Gram Panchayat area, particularly on the Chakan Shikrapur road in front of the Sahyadri Hotel, large potholes have been present for several months.

These potholes have resulted in traffic jams stretching four to five kilometers, causing major disruptions on the highway. The situation calls for immediate attention and action from the concerned authorities to prevent further accidents and alleviate traffic issues.

Meanwhile, the Nasarapur-Velhe road, spanning approximately 35 kilometers, is also riddled with potholes, causing significant inconvenience to drivers.

Residents and tourists are demanding immediate action from the Public Works Department to fill the potholes with gravel as a temporary solution. Continuous rain has exacerbated the potholes.

The roadwork for the Nasarapur-Cheladi route was announced but never commenced, leaving the gravel meant for repairs lying unused by the roadside. The continuous rains have worsened the potholes, turning minor issues into significant hazards filled with rainwater.

The situation is similar in Malegaon, Didghar, Virawadi, and Kurangwadi, where roads are equally neglected, posing an increased risk of accidents.

Velhe taluka is a popular destination for monsoon tourism, attracting numerous visitors traveling through Nasarapur to reach Rajgad. However, the poor road conditions force tourists to navigate carefully, detracting from their travel experience.
