Pune: Three persons were seriously injured after a speeding ST bus driver lost control over his vehicle and went on to hit other bikers on the road going from Chandani Chowk junction to Kothrud. The incident took place on Thursday (June 13, 2024) afternoon around 4pm.

The Mahacargo ST bus (MH14 BT 0881) was in such high speed that after colliding it broke the road divider and entered the other side of the road to further hit two two wheelers.

Kothrud police confirmed that three persons including a woman have been critically injured in this incident. They have been shifted to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, police cleared the traffic congestion caused due to the accident.

A similar incident happened on May 4, last month when the PMPML bus brake failed leading to multi-vehicle collision at Chandni Chowk. Fortunately there were no casualties reported barring one person sustaining minor injuries. Three four wheelers and two wheelers were damaged in that accident.

Pune city has been witnessing a series of such accidents in last few weeks. The Kalyani Nagar Porsche Car accident case, Wakad hit and run case, Gangadham chowk accident case were reported in last week. In these three cases, 3 persons including two women, have died while 2 other persons were injured. Another incident of hit and run is also reported in Bhosari, however police are yet to register FIR in this incident.

In all these cases, over-speeding vehicles like car, bus and truck have been the cause of accident. Citizen groups have been demanding action against over-speeding vehicles. Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni has voiced her concern regarding this and appealed to Pune police to undertake initiatives to prevent over-speeding vehicles plying on city roads. Citizens are expecting Pune police to take strong action against the suspects involved in such cases.
