Chandni Chowk to Hinjewadi Metro Proposed: Murlidhar Mohol

Pune: To reduce traffic congestion on the Pune-Bangalore highway, a new metro route from Chandni Chowk to Hinjewadi is proposed, according to Murlidhar Mohol, Minister of State for Civil Aviation.

The suggestion for this new inclusion has been made, and efforts are underway to get other proposed routes approved in the Cabinet.

Mohol announced that the metro section between Civil Court and Swargate will be inaugurated in August. He reviewed the metro project's progress during his visit to the Shivajinagar office on Monday (July 8).

Key officials, including Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, were present to discuss the metro's current status and future plans.

"The 3.5-kilometer stretch from Civil Court to Swargate will open in August, with two stations starting operations immediately and the third to follow. The Yerawada station is also nearing completion.

Proposals for new routes totaling ₹3,756 crores, such as Vanaz to Chandni Chowk, Ramwadi to Wagholi, SNDT to Manikbaug, and Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor, are awaiting Cabinet approval. We are pushing for swift approval," Mohol stated.

Additionally, there is a proposed 4.5-kilometer extension from Nigdi to Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the Swargate to Katraj route is also up for final approval in the upcoming Cabinet meeting. Efforts are being made to expedite approvals for these crucial infrastructure projects.

Tweeting his views on social media platform X, Murlidhar Mohol said, "On this occasion, raised the issue of increasing metro connectivity with the new terminal building of Pune Airport and also instructed the officials to explore the possibility of Chandni Chowk to Hinjewadi metro line, which may prove to be beneficial for thousands of citizens."

"Importantly, emphasised on increasing ‘Last Mile Connectivity’ so as to enable maximum citizens to access Pune Metro through feeder buses etc."
