Pune: BJP’s Chandrakant Patil has secured a landslide victory in the Kothrud Assembly constituency, winning by a significant margin of 112041 votes.
Patil’s victory reaffirms BJP's dominance in Pune, marking a decisive triumph against his opponents, Chandrakant Mokate of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Advocate Kishor Shinde of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
Patil received 1,59,234 votes, leaving Mokate (47193 votes) and Shinde (18105 votes) far behind in the vote tally. Despite a three-way contest, Patil's overwhelming lead highlighted the BJP's organizational strength and influence in the region.
Disappointment for Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS
Both the Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS faced significant setbacks in Kothrud, as their candidates failed to mount a serious challenge.
Observers noted a lack of focused campaigning by their senior leaders, which may have contributed to the lackluster performance. It was expected that MNS would dent the votes of both BJP and SS (UBT), however the party performed poorly in this constituency.
The BJP’s clean sweep in Pune holds significance not just at the local level but also for its impact on state politics. The victories underscore the party's robust organizational framework and its continued appeal to voters across Pune's urban constituencies.
