Pune: Chatuhshrungi police have arrested two individuals involved in a chain-snatching incident in the Balewadi area.
The suspects, identified as Sanjay Babre (29) and Rahul Mawas (24), were apprehended after an intensive investigation led by the local police. The incident occurred on the 11th of this month, when a woman's gold mangalsutra, valued at ₹1 lakh, was forcibly snatched from her neck in broad daylight.
A complaint was promptly registered at the Chatuhshrungi Police Station under Sections 309(4) and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code.
Acting swiftly, the police launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the crime scene and receiving crucial tips from confidential sources. Their efforts led them to Balewadi, where the suspects were reportedly staying with relatives.
In a carefully coordinated operation, the police laid a trap in the area and successfully apprehended the duo. Upon their arrest, the police recovered the stolen gold mangalsutra, weighing approximately 1.5 tolas, as well as a Pulsar motorcycle valued at ₹1 lakh that had been used in the crime. The total value of the recovered items amounts to ₹2 lakh.
Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle used in the chain-snatching was also stolen. This led to the unearthing of another case of vehicle theft linked to the Yeola Taluka Police Station in Nashik Rural. A case under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered in connection with the stolen vehicle.
The successful operation was overseen by a team of senior officers including Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Anuja Deshmane.
Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi from Chatuhshrungi Police Station, along with Crime Inspector Yuvraj Nandre and a dedicated team of officers, played a crucial role in the investigation and arrest.
