Child Marriage Case: Girl’s Complaint Leads to Charges Against Parents

Her husband allegedly forced her into unwanted physical relations, abused her verbally and physically, and hurled caste-based insults at her.

Pune: A 17-year-old girl from Yerawada has filed a complaint against her parents, grandmother, and three others for arranging her marriage despite knowing she was a minor. The Khadki Police Station has registered the case.

The complaint names Meena Rajesh Irale (40), Rajesh Irale (42), Shobha Navgire (55), Sangeeta Ranjit Gaikwad (50), Ganesh Takalkar (24), and Sanjay Takalkar (55) as the accused. The incident took place between March 3 and June 30, 2023, in Wafgaon Takalkarwadi.

According to the police, the girl was taken to Wafgaon by her parents and others, where they arranged her marriage. Her husband allegedly forced her into unwanted physical relations, abused her verbally and physically, and hurled caste-based insults at her.

The police have registered a case under the Child Marriage Act and the Atrocities Act, with Assistant Police Inspector Deshmane leading the investigation.
