Pune: A 29-year-old woman, Jyoti Navnath Kesarkar, was found dead in her room in Lakshminagar, Walhekarwadi, Chinchwad, following a violent incident involving her boyfriend.

Police have registered a case against the accused, Sahil, after surveillance footage confirmed his involvement.

The incident occurred between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. According to the Chinchwad police, Jyoti lived with a 30-year-old woman who also worked at a hotel. Both women, originally from Mattiwade village in Nipani Taluka, had relocated to Pune to escape domestic abuse by their husbands.

Jyoti had been in a relationship with Sahil, a resident of Yamgarni, a neighboring village. Following a dispute about a month and a half ago, the two had stopped communicating, and Jyoti was actively trying to distance herself from him. Despite this, Sahil continued to visit her.

On the morning of the incident, the complainant left for work while Jyoti planned to arrive at the hotel later.

At around 3:00 p.m., their friend discovered Jyoti unconscious in the room, with a pillow over her face and blood coming from her abdomen. CCTV footage revealed that Sahil had entered the building at 10:35 a.m. and exited ten minutes later.

Authorities suspect that Sahil smothered Jyoti with a pillow and stabbed her in the abdomen before fleeing the scene. Senior Police Inspector Kolu is currently leading the investigation.
