Pune: The second edition of the CII NexGen Mobility Expo 2024 was inaugurated today at the Pune International Exhibition Center, Moshi, with industry experts affirming the exponential growth prospects for the Indian automotive sector.

The event, themed “Integrating Indian Mobility,” showcases a diverse range of cutting-edge technologies across internal combustion engines (ICE), electric vehicles (EV), hybrid powertrains, hydrogen fuel, and alternative fuels like CNG, LNG, and ethanol, alongside innovations in automotive components and subsystems.

Arvind Goel, Chairman of the CII WR Taskforce on Future Mobility and Chairman of Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd, highlighted the sector’s strong trajectory.

“The Indian automotive industry is currently valued at $80 billion, with $15 billion in exports. This is projected to grow more than threefold to $250 billion in the near future. As India progresses towards its 2047 goal of becoming a developed nation and its 2070 target of achieving net-zero emissions, the auto industry will play a crucial role in driving this growth,” he remarked.

Swati Salgaocar, Chairperson of CII Western Region 2024-25, emphasized that mobility is the backbone of economic growth, connecting people to jobs and opportunities. “Future mobility must be sustainable, integrated, and automated,” she said, adding that India is at a critical stage of urbanization and must embrace clean and efficient transport solutions.

The three-day expo, running from 18th to 20th October 2024, provides a platform for key industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to collaborate on shaping the future of Indian mobility.

Akash Passey, Co-Chairman of the CII WR Taskforce on Future Mobility and President of ZF Group India, said, “As India rapidly positions itself as a global automotive powerhouse, we must focus on creating a safe, sustainable, and technologically advanced mobility ecosystem.”

The event also featured discussions on the transition from traditional ICE to electric vehicles, with Rajnikant Behera, Co-Chair of the CII NexGen Mobility Show 2024, calling for a unified industry approach to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities of this transformation.

Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of JBM Group, added that global standards present Indian companies with significant growth opportunities, while Dr. Reji Mathai, Director of ARAI, stressed the need for India to focus on both achieving net-zero emissions and enhancing vehicle safety standards.
