Citizens Question ₹50 Lakh Allocation for Flyover Fencing and Repairs

Shivraj Sanas

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation's project department had allocated ₹50 lakh to prevent the destruction of flower beds and for electrical repairs under the flyover between Dias Plot in Gultekdi and Giridhar Bhavan.

However, it has been revealed that the contractor and administration billed for the fencing work before planting the flower beds or completing the electrical repairs, raising questions among citizens.

The administration claims ₹32 lakh was spent on the fencing alone, while the remaining funds are intended for the garden department to continue the work.

Citizens are questioning the justification for such a high expense on fencing less than 100 meters, especially when the flower beds are not yet planted and electrical work remains incomplete.

When contacted, Chief Garden Inspector Ashok Ghorpade stated that the project department is responsible for this work, including the development of the garden.

However, the project department has said that the electrical and garden departments will now handle the work, revealing a lack of coordination between the municipal corporation's departments.

The garden department will undertake the flower bed work, and the electrical department will soon start their work. However, there is no information on when these departments will commence their tasks, said Gauri Gavte, Branch Engineer, Project Department.

Socialist Activist Balasaheb Runwal demanded the immediate suspension of the responsible officers to prevent the misuse of government funds and a thorough investigation within 15 days. He questioned if any influential individuals were involved and suggested filing cases against them.

Runwal asserted that many such investigations are often suppressed and vowed to pursue this issue to the end. He warned that if no decision is reached, a hunger strike would be held outside the municipal corporation.
