Pune: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made a significant statement during the launch of the 'Mukhyamantri Maji Ladki Bahin Yojana' in Pune, asserting that the monthly aid provided under the scheme could potentially be doubled in the future.

The scheme, which grants ₹1,500 per month to eligible women, has already deposited funds for July and August into beneficiaries' accounts.

In his address, Shinde indicated that the ₹1,500 monthly aid might increase to ₹3,000, contingent on the government's growing strength and public support.

“If everyone blesses and supports us, ₹1,500 will become ₹3,000,” Shinde declared, emphasizing the government's commitment to the welfare of women in the state.

The Chief Minister also launched a scathing attack on the opposition, accusing them of attempting to derail the scheme by taking the matter to court.

He referenced past instances where the opposition challenged similar welfare initiatives, such as the festive food package distribution during Diwali, Dussehra, and Ganpati, which included essential items like semolina, flour, sugar, oil, and pulses.

Shinde further criticized the opposition for their conduct during the COVID-19 pandemic, accusing them of establishing fake COVID centers and misappropriating resources meant for patients. He warned that any attempts to obstruct the development and welfare of women would be met with strong resistance.

"We can tolerate criticism against us, but if anyone obstructs the development of our sisters, then remember, you'll have to deal with me," Shinde warned.

The 'Majhi Ladki Bahin' scheme has sparked significant debate, with the opposition labeling it an election gimmick and a bribe. However, Shinde reaffirmed the government's intention to continue and potentially expand the scheme, stressing that the well-being of women remains a top priority.
