Pune: The election process for over 29,443 cooperative societies in Maharashtra, which had been delayed, is set to resume from October 1, 2024, as per the directives issued by the State Cooperative Election Authority.

In Pune district alone, a total of 3,048 cooperative societies will participate in the elections. These include 828 societies within Pune city and 2,220 from rural parts of the district.

Breakdown of Societies Involved:
Class A: 42 cooperative societies
Class B: 1,716 cooperative societies
Class C: 12,250 cooperative societies
Class D: 15,435 cooperative societies

According to the order issued by the Commissioner of the Election Authority, Anil Kawade, the election process will begin from the point where it was previously paused.

Cooperative societies whose elections were stayed by the High Court or Supreme Court will remain excluded from the election process. For all other societies, elections will proceed as planned.

The election schedules for Class A and Class B societies will be prepared as per the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Election Rules, 2014, and will be submitted to the authorities for approval. Once the schedule is approved, it will be widely publicized to inform all concerned parties.

For Class C cooperative societies, where elections were paused after the final voter lists were published, the election schedule will be finalized at the taluka or ward level.

The election authorities will update the voter lists for societies where the process was paused and resume the election based on the revised lists.

Societies that have not yet published draft voter lists will now use October 1, 2024, as the eligibility cut-off date for voter list preparation. This marks the final step before the election process moves forward.
