Cops Crack Down on Wrong-Side Driving, Triple-Seaters, Collect ₹94.69 Lakh Fine

Pune: In an effort to enforce traffic regulations more strictly, Pune city's Traffic Branch has conducted a special enforcement campaign focusing on drivers violating rules by driving on the wrong side of the road and those operating vehicles with triple-seat arrangements.

During the enforcement period from September 7 to September 10, 2024, the Traffic Branch took action against 1,066 drivers for driving on the wrong side, resulting in fines totaling ₹3,17,000. Concurrently, 2,101 drivers operating triple-seat vehicles were fined, leading to a total of ₹20,99,000 in fines.

In a previous campaign covering August 1 to August 31, 2024, the Traffic Branch had targeted 6,750 drivers for the same offense of driving on the wrong side, collecting ₹23,33,500 in fines.

Additionally, 4,859 drivers with triple-seat arrangements were fined, with the total amount collected reaching ₹47,20,000.

Combining both periods, from August 1 to September 10, 2024, the Traffic Branch has penalized 14,776 drivers for these infractions, collecting a total of ₹94,69,500 in fines. The Traffic Branch is also processing the suspension of driving licenses for individuals who continue to violate these regulations.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende, emphasized the ongoing efforts to enforce traffic laws and improve road safety. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance compliance and reduce accidents caused by traffic violations.
