The novel coronavirus is flattening its curve as India on Tuesday reported 94 COVID deaths in 24 hours, the lowest since May 14 last year.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated the overall death total has gone past to 1,54,486. Overall total caseload of COVID-19 now stands at 1,07,66,245 in over a year. The first case of novel virus was reported in Kerala on January 30, 2020.

On May 14, last year, India reported 98 deaths before its steady incline to 1,247 in mid-September, the highest deaths in 24 hours. From last four days, India has been reporting less than 15,000 daily new cases. Also, the death toll has stayed down below the 300-mark for over a month.

As per the Ministry's data, 1,04,48,406 people have so far been discharged, and currently, there are 1,63,353 active cases. The recovery rate has also gone up to 97.05 per cent, while the fatality rate is cut short to 1.43 per cent.

Since the New Year, daily recoveries have consistently gone up with daily new cases, the Union Health Ministry said.

Meanwhile, a total of 39,50,156 vaccinations against novel virus have taken place in the country in a fortnight after the approval of the two vaccines against COVID. India now stands fifth around the world in terms of the number of doses vaccinated within a nation, Union Health Ministry informed.
