Pune: In a disturbing development, a group of criminals led by notorious offender Rishikesh Kamthe held a celebratory procession in the Mahadevnagar area of Manjri after Kamthe was granted bail in a robbery case.

The incident, which took place on the evening of October 1, 2024, has sparked concern in the community as the procession was seen as an attempt to spread fear and re-establish dominance in the area.

Kamthe, who has multiple criminal cases registered against him, including charges of extortion, threats, robbery, and looting, was arrested on July 27, 2024, by Loni Kalbhor police.

He had previously been involved in robbing a hotel businessman, along with several other criminal activities in the Hadapsar and Loni Kalbhor regions.

After being granted bail recently, Kamthe, along with his associates, paraded through the streets of Mahadevnagar in celebration, disregarding the law and intimidating local residents.

Police officer Umesh Shelar filed a complaint at the Hadapsar Police Station, leading to a case being registered against Kamthe and his accomplices, including Ganesh Shinde, Rohan Shinde, Akshay Kanchan, Pratik Kanchan, and Prakash Hole, along with 10 to 15 others.

The celebratory march not only violated legal protocols but also caused significant unrest in the area, prompting an immediate response from the authorities.

The celebratory procession is particularly concerning because it directly violates preventive orders issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police G. Sridhar.

These orders were put in place to curb illegal activities and maintain public order, especially after multiple instances of criminal behavior by groups like Kamthe's.
