Pune: Shakuntala Marotrao Gorlewar, a resident of Bhim Chowk in Jaripatka in Nagpur, has fallen victim to a cryptocurrency scam, losing ₹57,000. The Jaripatka police have registered a case of fraud against four individuals from Pune who were involved in orchestrating the scam.

Gorlewar was defrauded under the pretext of investing in cryptocurrency. A case has been registered against four individuals identified as Vinod Mate (35), Ganesh Ware (35), Ajitkumar Prasad (50), and Vishal Mali (40), all residents of Pune. These individuals are employed by a company involved in cryptocurrency trading called ‘mSwift’.

According to the police, Shakuntala Gorlewar's husband, Marotrao, who works in marketing, was acquainted with Ajit Prasad, who is involved in cryptocurrency trading.

In September 2023, Prasad contacted Marotrao and introduced him to his friend, Vinod Mate, who promised to double the money invested in cryptocurrency within a month.

At that time, Marotrao invested ₹10,000, and it appeared that $5,000 had been credited to his account. Following this, Vinod Mate instructed him to download an ID on a website called 'Orbit Droid Force 1' under the company 'mSWift,' using his wife's phone number.

Marotrao then invested an additional ₹40,000 through various bank accounts and also borrowed some money to invest further. However, when he tried to contact Vinod for his returns after a month, there was no response.

Realizing they had been defrauded, Shakuntala Gorlewar filed a complaint with the police, who have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
