Pune: In a shocking case of cyber fraud, a young man was swindled out of ₹23.55 lakh by scammers who falsely claimed that the Delhi Police had registered a case against him in connection with a black money transaction.
The fraudsters convinced the victim to transfer large sums of money to avoid arrest, prompting the Chandannagar Police to register a case and launch an investigation.
The incident came to light after the victim filed a complaint at Chandannagar Police Station.
The scammers contacted him on September 21, claiming that his bank account was involved in illegal transactions related to black money. They threatened that the Delhi Police would arrest him unless he immediately deposited funds into various bank accounts.
Over time, the victim transferred ₹23.55 lakh to the accounts provided by the fraudsters. When they contacted him again, demanding more money, the victim realized he had been deceived and reported the incident to the police. Senior Police Inspector Anil Mane is leading the investigation.
Stock Market Scam: Pune Resident Loses ₹14 Lakh in Investment Fraud
In another case of cyber fraud, a resident of Hadapsar was duped of ₹14.30 lakh after being lured by fraudsters promising high returns on stock market investments.
The victim was contacted by individuals falsely claiming to represent SBI Securities on June 18, who convinced him to invest in the stock market with promises of lucrative returns. Over time, the victim transferred ₹14.30 lakh to the fraudsters’ accounts.
After receiving no returns and finding that the fraudsters had disconnected their phone numbers, the victim realized the scam and approached the Hadapsar Police. Police Inspector Amar Kalange is investigating this case.
