Cyrus Poonawala, Shiv Nadar, Abhay & Rani Bang Receive Santokbaa Humanitarian Award

Pune: The Shree Ramkrishna Knowledge Foundation (SRKKF), the charitable division of Shree Ramkrishna Exports held the prestigious Santokbaa Humanitarian Award ceremony at the Jio World Convention Centre.

This event recognized the outstanding contributions of visionary leaders in healthcare, education, and social service.

The ceremony shone a spotlight on the exceptional work of Cyrus Poonawala, Chairman and Managing Director of Serum Institute of India, Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL and the Shiv Nadar Foundation, and Drs. Abhay and Rani Bang, social activists and founders of SEARCH Foundation.

These individuals were honored for their significant impact on public health, education, and grassroots healthcare.

Swami Govind Dev Giriji Maharaj, a trustee of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust and President of Maharshi Vedvyas Pratishthan, served as the Chief Guest.

He was accompanied by the Governors of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Patel, and Maharashtra, C.P. Radhakrishnan, who attended as Guests of Honour.

Cyrus Poonawala was recognized for his transformative leadership in global health through the Serum Institute of India, which played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing affordable vaccines to millions worldwide.

Dr. Poonawala expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am deeply honored to receive this award, which recognizes the lifesaving impact of our vaccines. Since its inception in 1966, our institute has been committed to making high-quality vaccines accessible globally, contributing to the health and well-being of over 150 countries.”

Drs. Abhay and Rani Bang were awarded for their tireless efforts in bringing healthcare to remote communities in India through their SEARCH Foundation.

Their initiatives, including the Home-Based NewBorn Care (HBNC) and Community Health Workers (CHWs) programs, have revolutionized healthcare delivery in tribal areas.

Dr. Abhay Bang, in his acceptance speech, dedicated the award to the people of Gadhchiroli, whose trust and support have been instrumental in their journey. He also acknowledged the generous donation of INR 1 crore by the Dholakia family, which will further aid their efforts in improving healthcare in the region.

Shiv Nadar, a pioneer in education reform, was also honored for his philanthropic initiatives through the Shiv Nadar Foundation. His work has significantly advanced education in India, particularly through the establishment of SSN Institutions and the Shiksha Initiative.

Kiran Nadar, accepting the award on behalf of her husband, reflected on the personal inspiration behind their philanthropic journey and expressed heartfelt thanks to the Dholakia family for this recognition.

The Santokbaa Humanitarian Award, established in 2006 by Govind Dholakia in memory of his mother Santokbaa Laljidada Dholakia, celebrates individuals who have dedicated their lives to making a positive impact on society.

Govind Dholakia emphasized the importance of compassion and kindness, stating, “This award is a testament to the power of selfless service and the difference it can make in the world.”
