Pune: A shocking incident has surfaced where a newly married woman from Kurundwad was allegedly strangled to death by her husband at Dehu village in Pune district. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Pratiksha Jaydeep Yadav, was found dead near the Indrayani River behind Gatha Temple on Thursday (June 20) night.

The suspect, her husband Jaydeep Arjun Yadav, 30, has been arrested by the Dehuroad police. After being presented in court, he has been remanded to police custody until June 27th for further investigation.

Pratiksha was the daughter of Bhimrao Kore, a salon owner from Kurundwad. Despite Kore's efforts to educate his daughter up to an MSc degree, tragedy struck just two months after her marriage to Jaydeep Yadav, a diploma engineer from Chikhalgol, Vita in Sangli district.

Jaydeep, who was employed in Pune, had brought his wife to the city only eight days ago. On the night of the incident, he took Pratiksha for a walk along the Indrayani River where he allegedly strangled her with a scarf.

Police were alerted and swiftly arrived at the scene. A complaint was filed by officer Kiran Rajabhau Patil, leading to the arrest of Jaydeep Yadav. The court has ordered a seven-day police custody for the accused. Sub-Inspector Prabhakar Khanse is leading the investigation.

In an attempt to destroy evidence, Jaydeep reportedly threw both his and Pratiksha's mobile phones into the Indrayani River. The family of the deceased has been informed, and after an autopsy at YCM Hospital in Pimpri, Pratiksha's body was handed over to her parents. The funeral rites were performed at Krishna Ghat.
