Pune: The internal road in Mayur Kilbil Society in Dhanori has caved-in following heavy rainfall. This incident occurred around 4 AM, causing a large sinkhole to form.
The weakened condition of the road is attributed to the ongoing construction work for a new building initiated by a neighboring developer four to five months ago.
Residents noticed the huge cracks early in the morning and promptly blocked the road, preventing any injuries or damage.
This road is used daily by approximately two thousand residents, including around 25 school buses every morning. Nagnath Dhole, a local resident, mentioned that timely intervention averted potential accidents.
Tapan Das, another resident, pointed out the dangerous hollow condition of the road and emphasized the need for construction developers to take more precautions.
Prabhakar Mahajan, site supervisor for Triaa Builder, confirmed that the heavy rainfall caused the collapse. He assured that the road would be rebuilt properly within ten to fifteen days once the rain stops.
Earlier in June, heavy rains had led to flooding in areas such as Laxminagar, Vighnaharta, and Sai Park in Dhanori; Ganga Kunj in Kalas; Laxminagar and Yashwantnagar in Yerawada, etc.
Meanwhile, in Alandi, two containers were carried away by the floodwaters of the Indrayani River and collided with a bridge, getting stuck there. The onlookers were curious about where the containers had originated from.
The flood in the Indrayani River attracted a crowd to the bridge. Some people filmed the containers as they floated by, and the video has gone viral on social media.
