DIAT Pune Faculty Shine in Stanford’s Global Top 2% Influential Scientists Ranking

For the past five years, DIAT faculty members have consistently maintained their positions in Stanford’s Global Top 2% list.

Pune: Ten percent of the faculty at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), a premier defense research university under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), have been included in Stanford University’s Global Top 2% list of influential scientists. 

This international recognition underscores DIAT’s growing reputation as a center of excellence in defense education, training, and research.

DIAT, known for pioneering advanced defense-related technologies through its M.Tech and PhD programs, has ranked 63rd in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) by the Ministry of Education. 

The institution continues to play a key role in advancing indigenous defense technologies, fostering research and innovation in cutting-edge areas such as free-space communication, quantum materials, environmental engineering, renewable energy, and nano materials.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy extended his heartfelt congratulations to six esteemed professors—Prof. P.K. Khanna, Prof. Balasubramanian K., Prof. Unnikrishnan, Prof. Bhaskar Mazumdar, Prof. Prashant Kulkarni, and Prof. Bazil Raj—who have been recognized in Stanford’s list for their exceptional contributions to futuristic defense technologies. 

Their inclusion in Stanford's rankings highlights the global impact of their research.

For the past five years, DIAT faculty members have consistently maintained their positions in Stanford’s Global Top 2% list. 

Their work in areas such as additive manufacturing, hydrogen storage, radar systems, explosive materials, and battery technologies continues to contribute directly to advancements in defense technologies.

Commenting on this achievement, Dr. Murthy stated, “This accomplishment adds yet another feather to DIAT’s cap, reflecting our faculty’s dedication to pioneering research and technological innovation in the defense sector.”
