Pune district administration is making significant efforts to increase voter turnout in the upcoming elections, with a special focus on urban areas.

During a recent election review meeting, District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase instructed that awareness campaigns should be strengthened in cooperative housing societies to ensure greater voter participation.

In the meeting, it was revealed that various voter awareness initiatives carried out by voter registration officers have led to a surge in voter registrations across the district.

Pune now holds the distinction of having the largest voter base in the state, with a total of 8.647 million registered voters. Dr. Divase emphasized that the ongoing voter registration process will continue for ten days after the nomination process begins, and housing societies should ensure their members are informed and registered using Form 6.

The "Know Your Polling Station" initiative, introduced during the Lok Sabha elections to help voters identify their designated polling stations, will once again be promoted extensively.

Housing societies are expected to play a pivotal role by assisting their members in finding their names in the voter list and directing them to their respective polling stations.

Dr. Divase also highlighted the need for coordination between the District Registrar of Cooperative Societies and the registrars of cooperative societies in the city. These officials, along with their staff and auditors, will work closely with housing societies to streamline voter registration efforts.

A successful initiative from the previous elections, the “Grandparents, Let’s Go Vote!” campaign for voters over 80 years old, will be continued and further refined.

Housing societies are urged to provide information about their elderly members, allowing for the arrangement of necessary facilities such as wheelchairs. Plans to establish polling stations within old age homes are also underway, ensuring that senior citizens can exercise their right to vote with ease.
